The master's program in Educational Administration prepares professionals for leadership positions in the direction and management of K-12 schools and higher education. The program offers preparation for the roles of principal, business administrator, and superintendent and for other administrative positions in schools, school districts, colleges, and universities. This degree, considered the initial preparation for an administrative career, offers three strands: General Administration, Higher Education Administration, and School Business Management. An individual program of study is planned in consultation with an advisor.
The program requires successful completion of 30 credit hours and a comprehensive examination (students who maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher may apply for a waiver from the examination). All requirements must be completed within four years of admission. As many as nine credits may be earned at Temple prior to acceptance and applied to the M.Ed. program; up to six credits may be transferred from another institution, provided they were completed with a grade of B or better and within three years of admission. This course of study, with one additional course, fulfills the academic requirements for the Pennsylvania Administrative I Certificate (elementary principal or secondary principal).
Admission is based on a combination of academic and personal factors. The applicant must provide evidence of successful academic performance and aptitude for graduate level study as documented by undergraduate and graduate grade point averages, scores on the Graduate Record Examination or Miller Analogies Test taken within five years, and performance in any applicable courses taken prior to admission. A goal statement and three letters of reference from instructors or supervisors familiar with the applicant's professional and academic work are also required.
Applicants must submit:
