RIGHT COLUMN TITLE
The following awards are given annually to candidates graduating in August, January or May of the year in which the award is made. In most cases, faculty nominate students for these awards. If students wish to be nominated, they should contact a faculty member in the appropriate department and request consideration.
Student Teacher of the Year - Awarded to the most outstanding student teacher, undergraduate or graduate, in the graduating class in recognition of exemplary performance in scholarship and teaching. Nominated by a student teaching supervisor and selected by a faculty committee.
Nominations for the following four awards are made by College of Education faculty members and submitted to the chairperson of the Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology in Education Department.
1) Teacher Education Graduate in Elementary Education/Early Childhood - Awarded to the most outstanding member of the graduating class majoring in Elementary/Early Childhood Education who demonstrated excellence in scholarship and teaching.
2) Teacher Education Graduate in Secondary Education - Awarded to the teacher education graduate concentrating in secondary education whose record of scholarship and teaching is outstanding.
3) Teacher Education Graduate in Special Education - Awarded to the most outstanding member of the graduating class majoring in special education, who demonstrated excellence in scholarship and teaching.
4) Teacher Education Graduate in Career and Technical Education - Awarded to the most outstanding member of the graduating class majoring in career and technical education, who demonstrated excellence in scholarship and teaching.
Dean Willard Zahn Tribute Award - Awarded to a graduating senior who has completed a minimum of 60 semester hours (exclusive of Pass/Fail and Credit/No Credit grades) enrolled in the College of Education with the highest scholastic average. The Office of Student Services determines the award recipient.
Marketing/Distributive Education Alumni Service Award - Awarded to a member of the graduating class, who has been judged to have performed the most outstanding service in the interest of the College of Education and the University. A minimum GPA of 3.5 is required. . The candidate is selected by the Curriculum, Instruction and Technology in Education faculty in the Career and Technical Education program.
S.W. Caplan Memorial Marketing/Distributive Education Alumni Association Award - Awarded to a member of the graduating class majoring in marketing/distributive education with outstanding qualities of leadership and personality who has earned the highest scholastic average for all work taken at Temple University. The candidate is nominated by the Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology in Education faculty in the Career and Technical Education program.
L.Waldo Rich Award - Awarded to the most outstanding undergraduate or graduate student member of the graduating class majoring in secondary education/mathematics. A minimum GPA of 3.5 is required. Additional criteria may be required as established by the Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology in Education Faculty in the Secondary Education/Mathematics program. Benjamin Verdile Alumni Service Award - Awarded to a graduate or undergraduate member of the graduating class judged to have performed the most outstanding service in the interest of the College of Education and/or the University. A College of Education faculty or staff member and/or alumnus/a must nominate the candidate. Nominations must be submitted to Valarie Gay, Director of Development for the College of Education, Ritter Annex-223, Valerie.Gay@temple.edu.
Benjamin Banneker Award)
The purpose of the FUND is to provide an annual award for a full-time graduate student in the College of Education who worked as a research or teaching assistant in the College during the academic year prior to receiving the award, and who showed outstanding work and initiative in carrying out his or her research/teaching activities.

Awarded to the most outstanding member of the graduating class who shows promise in the integration of technology into the teaching-learning process.

Awards will be presented in May at a College Awards ceremony. The Awards Ceremony is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 13th, 4:00 p.m., Walk Auditorium, Ritter Hall, 1st floor.
