Early Childhood Education Major (CITE)

The Early Childhood Education major provides specialized preparation for students interested in working with children from birth through age eight. The curriculum is designed to help candidates integrate theories of child development and learning, family systems, and early childhood curriculum, pedagogy and assessment practices. All students are prepared to serve children at risk for developmental delays. Field experiences provide opportunities to put theory into practice and occurs in settings such as early learning centers, Head Start classrooms and K-3 public school classrooms. Graduates of the Early Childhood Program are expected to assume leadership positions as head teachers, education coordinators, early childhood trainers and early childhood specialists.

Degree Programs

The Early Childhood major is often combined with the program in Elementary Education, which prepares students for dual certification and qualifies them to work with children through grade six.
